International Day 2024

Global Workshops for a Global Community

Last Friday saw Landmark transformed once again into a global departure hall of excitement. Our second annual International Day launched with a colourful parade showcasing the incredible 43 nationalities present within our school. Students were then transported to all corners of the globe as they visited a range of exciting workshops designed to introduce them to different cultures from around the world. Amongst the wonderful activities offered, students had the opportunity to learn Chinese calligraphy, make delicious Italian pizzas, learn some traditional Scottish dancing and try their hand at creating a Canadian canoe that would float.

An exploration of taste

The festive atmosphere continued through the afternoon, as our wonderful parents joined us in the playground to create an International Marketplace, where the whole community was invited to sample cuisine from 23 different countries represented within our school. On offer there included Japanese sushi, Ukrainian dumplings, German wurst, Brazilian feijoada and Australian lamingtons. The buzz from all the families was wonderful, as everyone had the opportunity to try some new delicacies and learn about all the different places our community hails from.

World MUSic

This year, we were joined by 2 captivating musicians, who brought the event to a mesmerising close. Katherine Cui introduced us to the Chinese Sitar, and played a beautiful piece she has been learning for just a few months. She was joined by Shayan Motamedi who played us two Iranian instruments from his earlier workshops with the students.

THE PTA SUPPORTING UNICEF

We also had the added excitement of a special PTA raffle prize draw. Our hard working Parent-Teacher Association have spent the last few weeks scouring Cambridge for some excellent prizes that were drawn at the end of the event. Among the top prizes included special donations from our generous sponsors; Bread and Meat (Cambridge), EcoBee (Fulbourn) and Jack’s Gelato (Cambridge), alongside some lovely prizes from our own PTA. In total, they were able to raise a whopping £437, with half of that going to support UNICEF in its vital humanitarian causes around the world.

THank you and see you next year

We wish to warmly thank everyone who played a part in making the day a huge success. As one parent told me, having the chance to meet and mingle with other families is such an important part of the International lifestyle. We are already looking forward to next year’s event, so make sure you save the date as soon as we release it early next academic year!
