Autumn Term Newsletter 2025-2026

Dear Members of the Landmark Community

The holiday season is here. We hope you’re looking forward to some relaxing and enjoyable times with family and friends. It has been another vibrant and successful term full of trips, events and celebrations.

Starting on a high!

Back in September we started the new academic year on a high. Our graduating class had just received a fantastic set of GCSE results and this was shortly followed by a very positive Ofsted report that really captured and celebrated the experiences of students at Landmark.

We welcomed families back at our annual parent reception, which was a lovely opportunity to welcome many new families to the school. The school grew to 110 students for the first time this term and it is wonderful to see the community thriving.

Getting out and about!

As an IB school the contextualisation of learning is really important to us and as always we have been on a number of trips to bring learning to life. In addition to our regular use of forest school in the primary school, students from across the school have participated in trips to the Institute of Astronomy, the Reform Synagogue, AstraZeneca STEM Inspiration Lab and the Museum of Cambridge.

We have continued to build relationships with other schools. Several year groups have attended the PowerHouse Games. Our secondary students have had badminton and football fixtures with the Waldorf school and our primary students have had netball fixtures with Fulbourn primary school. A number of our students participated in the district cross country championships at Netherhall.

A highlight of the term was our year 7 students attending an engineering day at Abbey College, participating in a competition with students from other schools in the area. Our year 7 students did fantastically well and finished first!

Community Events

We were excited to have our second edition of History Day, following on from last year’s Medieval focus we moved forward in time to the Tudors. The year 9 students started the day with a whole community assembly and ran an excellent fair for the rest of our students to enjoy. Considering the interdisciplinary nature of history several teachers ran workshops looking at the Tudor period through the lens of their subject exploring areas as diverse as gunpowder, blackwork embroidery and Shakespeare.

We celebrated National Poetry Day with a wonderful range of performances shared with the whole school. Classes presented lively, action-packed poems, while several students chose to perform their personal favourites. Highlights included a 700-year-old Persian poem and an original poem written by one of our students especially for the occasion.

Beyond our immediate school community, we also joined in with the wider Fulbourn community. We participated in the Fulbourn Remembrance Service, with students laying a wreath and reading a poem. It was incredibly special to see our students join the village service, standing with such respect and thoughtfulness. Over a quarter of our community then took part in the lantern parade through Fulbourn during the Winter Festival this is always a highlight at the end of the school term.

Fabulous Fundraising

We are very proud of the service as action that takes place at Landmark and this term has been no different. There have been many initiatives, including the student council led activities for Children in Need. We enjoyed a brilliant Bake Sale, many of us wore yellow or spotty clothes to show our support and many students completed a Sponsored Silence. In total the school raised £628.

As part of our whole-school Service Learning project we partnered up with Hope Against Poverty, a local organisation supporting families in need within our community. Together, we collected a fantastic range of goods and £175 in cash, allowing us to create seven huge hampers with gift vouchers for fresh food, plus a number of spare items to support even more families this season. We are truly impressed by the generosity and kindness shown across the whole school. This week, Hope Against Poverty came to collect the hampers and were absolutely overwhelmed by the support. The Landmark community's donations will make a meaningful difference to families in our local area.

Goodbyes

As we come to the end of the term we sadly have to say some goodbyes. The following members of our community will sadly be leaving us, Rinko, year 11 and Kanako, year 7 will return to Japan and very recently Lino, year 11 and Luna, year 3 returned to Colombia. We are very sad to see them leave our community, but wish them all the best as they return to their home nations.

As always, we are grateful to you for entrusting your children to us and for being such valued contributors to our school community. We wish you a fantastic holiday and very much look forward to welcoming your children back to school on Tuesday, January 6th.

With very warm regards

Gareth and the Landmark team
