Careers Day 2022
On June 24th we held our annual Careers Day. In the morning all our secondary students were given the opportunity to explore our Careers Website and to take a quiz which gave them some ideas on the type of career they may be suited to and enjoy. They were given lots of ideas about different types of gap years from internships to voluntary work. We welcomed eight speakers, whose careers were:
software designer,
research psychiatrist,
wave physicist,
entrepreneur,
social worker,
radiologist,
banker
and a psychotherapist!
The students were very engaged and asked lots of interesting questions.
The students were set a 'Young Apprentice' challenge during the afternoon. They were divided into groups and tasked with designing, building and selling a chair. They were given funds to buy materials, market their product and buy time with 'experts' for advice on Engineering, Sales and Marketing, Health and Safety, Finance and Computer Aided Design. Two winning groups were awarded a £10 Amazon voucher per person; the group who made the greatest net profit and the group who conducted their project in a way most aligned to the Landmark ethos. The Sales Manager was tasked with presenting his product to the team of buyers and Mr Turnbull-Jones tested each chair in a robust manner!
