Landmark Action: Festive fun and Ukraine Support

The Landmark Community has dug deep this festive season with a number of fundraising events organised on behalf of the families displaced by the war in Ukraine.  We are so proud of our students for their action in supporting and helping others. Through our Ukrainian families within our Landmark Community, we have teamed up with the Mums4Ukraine charity, based in Cambridge, to explore ways we can support them this winter. Find out more about the charity on their website or on Facebook. In addition we have supported the Carols for Ukraine concert organised by the Cambridge Rotary Club.

Festive sing-a-long

On Thursday 1st December, parents enjoyed a seasonally festive sing-a-long event in the school hall. The hard work and musical talent from the students´ music lessons were showcased in an hour long performance. The children sang carols and shared readings in different languages, such as French, German, Spanish and Chinese, and performed a range of instruments such as the ukulele, flutes and recorders. Thank you to all the parents who joined in with some festive favourites and made the afternoon really special. Refreshments were served courtesy of the PTA, and the grand total of £298 was raised to be distributed between the PTA and the Ukrainian Charity.

Rotary Club Carols for Ukraine

The Primary children had a second opportunity to shine their musical light on the wider community in Cambridge on Monday 5th December. Students and families gathered together in the evening at Great St. Mary´s Church to sing their hearts out in support of the Cambridge Rotary Club’s Carols for Ukraine appeal. The event was a huge success and our youngest students performed proudly on stage in front of a packed audience. The proceeds from the concert have gone towards the purchase of a reconditioned ambulance to send to Ukraine. A selection of music from the concert will be broadcast on Cambridge 105 Radio on Christmas Day afternoon, immediately after the King’s broadcast at 3.00pm.

Shoe box appeal

Within the school, we have appealed to families to fill a shoebox full of gifts to be sent to an orphanage in Ukraine. We collected 20 of these boxes filled with goodies that are winging their way over to make a child smile this Christmas. One of the essential elements of our IB Primary Years Programme is responsible and meaningful action. Seeing our community come together to spread love and kindness this season is part of what our school values and what we are all about.

Clothing donation

Our pre-loved clothing drive is still active over the holidays. We all enjoy getting new clothes and toys for Christmas, but as part of our ongoing action, we are asking everyone to look critically at your toy cupboards and wardrobes and donate any unwanted, good condition, pre-loved items to the Mums4Ukraine charity. These items will go to help our locally-based Ukrainian families with essential items over the winter. Please add any items to the collection bin in the school hall by Thursday 12th January 2023.

In addition, the following items are required and greatly appreciated:

  • Toiletries and hygiene items, especially deodorant and soaps

  • Canned/long-life/non-perishable food, e.g. pasta, pulses, preserves and sugar

  • Household cleaning and washing items

  • New/nearly new women and children´s clothing/tracksuits/rain gear/shoes (WINTER ONLY)

  • New EU/UK power plug adapters, power banks
