Creative thinkers in Toucan class collaborate to design and make books
This term in Toucan class we are experimenting with paper making and using handmade paper for books. The Toucan class was asked to bring in fabric to make the cover for the books.
Making the paper
We started out ripping up 5 pieces of A4 scrap paper and added ¾ of the blender with water and the paper then we blended. BLENDING WAS REALLY LOUD! We poured it into two frames, and then we lifted the frames up onto the container and the water dipping down it was very beautiful. There were many more steps and when it dried we sewed the papers together. I loved the whole process, except the blending!
Making the paper into books
Well, we started off by making the cover. We grabbed our 35 by 45 cm fabric and 2 A4 sized cardboard. Put the cardboard about 3 cm apart on the fabric.Cut off the corners, cover the cardboard in glue and place your sewed together paper on top of the cardboard then fold the fabric onto the cardboard and over the edge of the paper.
Now you have a hand made book and you're ready to write!
