Spring Term Newsletter 2020/2021
Dear Landmark Community
The end of the Spring Term is here! We have particularly enjoyed the past few weeks since the majority of our students have been back in school; we very much hope that Spring 2021 will be the last term of lockdown!
It has been a busy and eventful term despite the challenges the pandemic has presented.
At the beginning of term the school was awarded both National Online Safety and Remote Learning Accreditation; this training and qualification was important to our continuing drive to support safe remote learning and the wellbeing of our community.
The term started with the whole school community in lockdown, so sadly we were only able to welcome key workers’ children into the building. However, remote learning was put into place from the beginning of term and the students impressed their teachers with their positive attitude to this challenge of another period of online learning.
In February the whole school had the opportunity to take part in the Bishops Stortford College Festival of Literature. This was a wonderful event which allowed us to listen to talks from a wide range of authors and storytellers, such as Emma Yarlett, Emily Hanna-Grazebrrok and Joseph Coelho. Students were able to send in questions, many of which were put to the authors. A memorable moment was when Anna McNuff, author of “100 Adventures to have before you Grow Up”, punched the air at our second question saying “Go Landmarkers!” Clearly she recognised our enthusiasm!
On Friday, February 26th our primary students had a whole day away from their normal remote learning schedule to take time to engage in activities to support wellbeing. This included students using a menu of activities that covered the following areas:
Physical
Social
Creative
Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM)
Family focus
The whole community got together in the afternoon during an assembly to celebrate wellbeing day and look at some of the activities that everyone had been up to.
On March 4th the whole school community celebrated World Book Day. This was another fantastic opportunity for the students to dress up, share their love of reading and talk about their favourite books. Mrs Roche and Mrs Bordol-Marsh organised some great activities and students both at home and at school were creative with their costumes!
On March 8th we were delighted to finally welcome the students back into the building. There were lots of smiling faces and a warm welcome to new students Jake, Charlie, Jasper and Angelica. The students were excited by the enhancements to the building that had taken place during their absence; the new library area is a popular and airy space and the Eagle students are enjoying their new classroom. The students have also enjoyed using the Cheeky Monkeys site for Sport and Forest School.
Landmark continues to shine in a range of language competitions: Kai and Maisie received book tokens from the Cambridge Classical Association for their first and second places in the city-wide Latin Reading Competition. Following success city-wide Landmark gained a triple success in the National Latin Reading Competition; Maisie was awarded a bronze medal while Antonia and Kai were highly commended.
We are looking forward to the summer term, which begins on Wednesday the 14th April. We will welcome Isabella and Rafa into Year 8, Victor into Year 9 and Aphra into Kingfisher Class. A range of new and existing after school clubs will be back in place: in addition to Football, Art and Coding Club we will be offering Chess Club on a Wednesday and Lego Club on a Tuesday as well as a lunch time board games club for our secondary students.
We wish you all a relaxing, safe and healthy break and thank you for your continued support.
