New Scientist Live Trip

New Scientist Live Trip

On the 10th of October, the seniors of Landmark went to the science festival in London. This was a great opportunity to see many scientists talk about various topics, such as: fighting cancer, the solar system and the future of healthcare, as well as many others.

There were also special guests attending such as Tim Peake and Bobby Seagull. It was also quite interesting to see different schools from around England come to see the lectures at the festival.

One lecture many people found interesting was called: “growing human cells to fight disease.” According to one of the students who went to the lecture, scientists had discovered that we could grow organs inside a laboratory. This was to help the people who needed organ donors if they had organs removed due to disease. When someone gives an organ donor, they remove all the cells from the organ. They are then left with the shell of the organ. They take a stem cell from the ill person and grow it inside the organ shell. Finally they put the organ back inside the person.

It was also very interesting to see different schools from all over England gather at this event. The overall experience was very exciting and we hope to experience this again!
