Landmark International School National Poetry Day Blog 2022

This year we have decided to explore the idea that literature and science influence each other. When we sat down to look at the theme for National Poetry Day this year, we discovered that the theme was the environment and we were delighted that it fitted so well into our central idea.

Plans were laid for nature walks, a workshop leader booked and poems chosen. In the previous days Primary had taken time during Forest School to zoom in on elements of nature that interested or inspired them. In Secondary we were glad when the day dawned sky blue and cloudless, and our walk in nature was a wonderful opportunity to get out and explore our surroundings, while taking pictures of aspects of nature that caught our attention.

Both Secondary and Primary took this inspiration into a series of workshops run by Giulietta M Spudich, a local author and poet who originally trained as a scientist. The resulting poems were a testimony to the beauty of nature and our ability to reflect on it.

At the end of the day we held a whole school assembly and shared some of our poems. It is always a wonderful occasion when we all get together, and this was no exception, with students impressing us with their creativity. You can see some of the work from the day in the google slides (above) and slideshow (below).

We are looking forward to a year of exploration and inspiration around our central idea, and if you have any ideas that you would like to share with us then we would be very happy to hear from you.
